These sketches and paintings were made for Robert's Snow 2005.

I trace the snowflake onto tracing paper and start sketching out ideas... Baby Jesus on my snowflake?

Some kids with a lamb?

I put down another sheet of tracing paper and draw the face and hair of the little boy.

I put a sheet of tracing paper on top of Baby Jesus and make him a bit chubbier!

A lamb instead of Baby Jesus?

The Little Drummer Boy, of course!
He's perfect for Robert's Snow.

And I even like him with the face of the original little boy, when I put the tracing paper on top.

I scan everything into the computer and put it all together using Photoshop.
I refine the body of the little drummer boy with another sheet of tracing paper and scan that in as well.

I try out some quick colors in photoshop.

The final drawing of Baby Jesus as assembled in Photoshop.

The final drawing of my little drummer boy.

I print out my drawings onto watercolor paper, stretch the paper, and begin to paint.

I go back in with pencil.

My short friend comes in after his nap to give some helpful hints.

Baby Jesus is finished.

I start painting my little drummer boy.

Almost finished.
I want to go back in to deepen some of the blues in the night sky.

The two finished paintings.

I cut the paintings carefully.

And paste them onto the snowflake.
